PILLOWS in Motion: A Listening Experience at Oude Kerk
During Amsterdam Dance Event, côte&ciel partnered with Amsterdam-based sonic media platform Minimal Collective to present PILLOWS, the latest chapter in its ongoing Soft Sculptures series. From 22–24 October, the historic Oude Kerk became the setting for a three-day listening installation exploring the relationship between sound, movement and the body.
Inflatable sculptures, presented in Anthracite Tweed and Black & Cream Tweed from the FW26 collection, were distributed across the church floor, creating an unconventional communal seating environment. Visitors were invited to sit, lie and interact with the forms, allowing the furniture to become part of the experience rather than simply a place to rest.
As performances moved between different areas of the church, visitors carried the sculptures with them, gathering and rearranging them in response to each new setting. Some formed piles of cushions to lie upon, while others moved through the space with their sculptures, following the sound. Against the backdrop of candlelight and historic architecture, the installation became a continuous exchange between people, objects and their surroundings.
Through PILLOWS , côte&ciel continues its exploration of how form can influence the way we inhabit a space. Rather than remaining static, the sculptures moved with their audience, becoming an active part of a shared listening experience.
